Central Sanskrit University (CSU) – Overview

The Central Sanskrit University has the unique distinction of being the largest and the only multi-campus language university in the world. It stands as a prestigious institution dedicated to preserving, promoting, and propagating the rich heritage of Sanskrit language and Shastric knowledge.

The President of India is the Visitor of the University. The Union Minister, Education Ministry, is the Chancellor. Prof. Shrinivasa Varakhedi is the present Vice Chancellor.

Sanskrit language and literature have played a vital role in the development of Indian and world languages, knowledge systems, sciences, philosophy, arts, culture, and education. The University continues this glorious legacy through its academic and research initiatives.

The Sansthan was established on 15th October, 1970 as an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Education for the promotion, preservation, and propagation of Sanskrit learning across the nation.

In 2002, Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan and its campuses were declared a Deemed University with multi-campus structure, empowering it to undertake higher education, research, and policy-oriented academic activities in Sanskrit.
